Motorcycles aren’t for everyone, but they are for me.
We sold our last bike, a 2006 Yamaha Fz6, towards fall time in 2010. At the time, we hadn’t moved into our new home and I wasn’t riding it very often. I’ve really enjoyed the sportbike side of the world, but I’ve been in love with raw, naked bikes for sometime. I started reading my first chopper mags back in high school, rode MX bikes since I was a kid, and then started with sportbikes in college. I’m certainly not prejudice against any type of two wheeled machine. It occurred to me earlier this year that I would want another bike, but I didn’t want to quite tell my wife just yet. I quietly searched for multiple types of cafe racers, bobbers, and harleys. I quickly fell in love with the Buell XB S Lightning series of bikes. Very hooligan like and not much plastic. I searched and just as soon as I found one, I decided to pull the trigger. It wasn’t until my wife and I discussed the bike, that I realized I didn’t want something so refined. She helped me to realize that I wanted something retro, antique and unique. While searching, I found a bike builder out of Atlanta. After trailering the Karmann Ghia from Atlanta, I swore I would never go back…and then this past Sunday, I did.
It started life as a 1983 Suzuki GS 750. The motor is out of an early 90′s model, while the frame was chopped and lowered. It runs a speedometer and thats it. No dummy lights. Running a new top end, rings, rods, the works..they all dump into a 4 to 1 aftermarket header. The bike is EXTREMELY loud. It makes a Harley sound like a moped.
Plans for me will include the motor being polished out or painted, the headers being wrapped in black header wrap, the wheels painted all jet black, and possibly a tan seat and I’ll fab a small rear fender.
